From December 6th thru 7th, the International Council of Shopping Centers successfully hosted its annual New York City Convention at the Javits Center. The event aimed to unite industry professionals in a productive environment, emphasizing networking, reconnecting with business associates, and facilitating in-person deal-making. Approximately 7,000 registered attendees, including industry giants, gathered at ICSC New York, according to a spokesperson from the organization.
Silbert Realty & Management Company had a notable presence with a six-member team, featuring its commercial brokerage and marketing departments within a Javits Center company booth.
Being an active participant with ICSC since 1993, Brian Silbert praised the ICSC committee for the event's success, expressing satisfaction at the opportunity to bring retailers, brokers, and professionals together for meetings and presentations. The SRM team engaged in multiple presentations and fruitful meetings with premier national retailers, restaurants, and shopping center industry players.
The overall sentiment of the event was positive, and industry leaders shared similar outlooks. Al Urbanski at the Business of Retail summarized, "The influx of medical users into retail centers has contributed to increased availability, as hospitals occupy substantial space. However, the high construction costs are expected to be balanced by lower interest rates. The vacancy rate is anticipated to rise to between 5 and 7 percent."
